In the last decade, Granot invested more than 100 million NIS in planting avocados. In the coming years, it is planning to plant thousands of additional acres in the Granot area in order to meet the increasing demand by the European markets. Planting avocados in the Granot area serves another equally important purpose, which is to preserve the area’s land and agriculture, to foster a green landscape and to guarantee the industry’s continuation in the long run.
The fruit is packaged in the Granot Avocado packing house – one of the biggest and most advanced packing houses in the world. In 2010, it was renovated and great efforts were made to improve the packing and sorting systems, which are equipped to handle more than 30,000 tons of fruit in the avocado season. Renovation of the packing house improved the quality of fruit handling and even increased the export of avocado. Furthermore, as a result of the renovation, the output of the sorting and packing systems increased in accordance with the increase of fruit production. About 75% of the avocado is transported to the big chain stores and to European markets, while maintaining strict quality, kosher and packing standards.
Granot Avocado collaborates with chain stores and customers in Israel and in Europe in order to ensure appropriate return on investment for the avocado growers. In the last years, we have seen an increase in the return on investment as a result of an increase in European demand for avocado and more awareness for avocado in markets.
